The Adams County Board of Commissioners (BoCC) awarded $1,003,151.45 in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) at public hearing on Tuesday, April 30.

AMHR is a nonprofit community mental health organization that provides a wide range of mental health and addiction services to anyone and everyone in need. AMHR’s staff of physicians, nurses, psychologists, therapists, and peers works with all age groups, from children to seniors.

The Colorado State Board of Pharmacy passed a regulatory proposal Adams County Health Department (ACHD) initially proposed that increases access to healthcare and pharmacy services in medically underserved and rural communities.

Today, the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) announced the largest state enforcement package against a single facility for air pollution violations to Suncor refinery in Commerce City. Suncor must pay at least $10.5 million toward penalties and projects due to air pollution violations from July 2019 through June 2021. This action is a step toward holding Suncor more accountable for past violations and requires the refinery to take steps to prevent future violations.

EPA’s SepticSmart program is a nation-wide initiative to share information on the proper care and maintenance of septic systems and encourage public stewardship in caring for these wastewater treatment systems. Adams County Health Department (ACHD) officials confirmed the first death from West Nile virus, an adult resident, within the county this year.

West Nile virus is spread to people through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Most infected with the virus do not have symptoms. However, one in five could develop flu-like symptoms, which typically begin two to 14 days after exposure. Serious, potentially deadly neurologic illness occurs in fewer than one in 100 infected people.  

After more than a three-year pause, the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) has resumed the standard eligibility renewal and disenrollment process for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+). The priority for the Adams County Health Department  (ACHD) and Adams County Human Services Department (ACHS) is to keep residents covered and to connect disenrolling members to affordable health coverage.
