Food Access & Food Systems
Everyone deserves access to food that meets their dietary, cultural, and religious needs. Our program works to expand food access for everyone in Adams County.
Changing The Systems, Ending Food Insecurity
Our work centers around improving food systems at every step of the way. That means improving processes, supporting people, and creating better outcomes in getting healthy and affordable food from seed to your plate.
Food Insecurity is Happening In Adams County. Let’s End It Together.
Food insecurity is when people don’t have access to safe, healthy, and affordable food to support basic needs and an active life.

County.
Over six years, the Healthy Farmers Markets program expanded to meet growing community needs, especially with COVID-19 emergency funding. Even though these funds have ended, the Adams County Health Department’s (ACHD) commitment to helping residents access healthy food remains strong, and we’re actively planning for the future.
ACHD is working to strengthen existing partner food access programming and to uplift organizations that wish to initiate programming. In the meantime, we encourage you to stay connected and take advantage of upcoming summer programs our partner groups are leading across the county. Watch for updates in the ACHD newsletter and on our Facebook page, and reach out to participate and support these vital efforts.
To continue receiving the food assistance you or someone you know needs, please visit and share ACHD’s resources page, in addition to the resources below, with others who may benefit:
For additional questions, the ACHD Food Access program can be reached at foodaccess@adamscountyco.gov.
Across the state, communities are coming together to improve how local food systems work. These groups bring together farmers, advocates, government workers, businesses, nonprofits, and more to make food fair and healthy for everyone.
We are working with community members to start this work in Adams County. Stay tuned to see our plan! For questions or to get involved, contact FoodAccess@adamscountyco.gov.
Food system resilience planning means making a plan to help our food supply stay strong and steady, even when bad things happen, like storms, droughts, or other problems. Communities and governments work together to determine what could go wrong, see what parts of the food system might be weak, and develop ways to prevent problems, deal with them when they happen, and recover afterward. This helps make sure everyone can still get the food they need.
We’re working with the Adams County Office of Strategic Partnerships & Resilient Communities on Goal 10.5 of their Long-Term Recovery and Resiliency Strategic Plan: “Collaborate with Public Health to align strategies, resources, and networks to support food resilience initiatives.”
We partnered with Boulder County Public Health, Clinica Family Health, and a group called Voces de Mamás to co-design a program that offers pregnant patients home-delivered boxes of fresh fruit and vegetables. To learn more about the program and the group, read our final report.
