The National Safety Council estimates that 5,000 safety-related accidents occur in American schools each year, with at least 10% of those accidents occurring in science classrooms.
Adams County Health Department (ACHD) partners with Adams County Schools to ensure a safe learning environment by conducting routine school health inspections to identify and address potential health and safety hazards. These routine school health inspections are conducted by our department in addition to other health inspections performed in other areas of the school such as health inspections for school cafeterias, licensed childcare programs and pools.
School health inspections are conducted at all schools in Adams County for grades K-12 using the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Rules and Regulations Governing Schools in the State of Colorado. This includes all public, private and parochial schools. School health inspections are conducted every three years for low-risk areas (such as health service rooms, general classrooms, recreational rooms) and annually for high-risk areas (such as science labs, art rooms and vocational classrooms).
