Housing Stability

Housing is a key determinant of health, recognized nationally in Healthy People 2030 in both the Economic Stability and Neighborhood and Built Environment Areas, and moved forward in 2024 by the Colorado Public Health Improvement Committee as a potential state public health priority. Where people live is directly connected to their health and safety. Without adequate housing, people have trouble managing their daily lives. For most people, housing is their greatest monthly expense. Quality, affordable housing is central to individual and community wellbeing.

Housing has been repeatedly identified as a key determinant of health and basic need in every level of government planning; housing is one of three county priorities identified in the Community Health Improvement Plan by Adams County Thriving Communities Collaborative and the Adams County Health Department. Substandard housing conditions also impact health and are more commonly encountered by people experiencing housing instability, housing insecurity, and housing injustice.
